WHAT IS CELTA?

CELTA (Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults) is the most recognised initial English Language Teaching qualification in the world. It is designed for people with little or no teaching experience, but it can be taken by more experienced teacher who require a formal qualification.

The core elements of the CELTA course are

  • Teaching practice, hands-on classroom practice gives you the tools to start teaching straight away
  • Seminar input, where you have the opportunity to understand the theory and techniques behind Communicative Language Teaching
  • Observation of experienced teachers and of peers provides an opportunity to learn from colleagues
  • Assessed written assignments give you an opportunity to reflect on your teaching and the principles behind it.

WHAT TRAINEES SAY ABOUT US

I'm very happy to have completed the CELTA course at The London School. Even though the journey from Padua to Thiene was quite long, the atmosphere once at school was very friendly and attentive to our needs. It almost felt like a second home, certainly not just a school that you attend as one of a multitude of anonymous students passing through. The course is highly demanding and it's best to give it your full attention for one month but the quantity and quality of what you learn is worth every effort. You also work so closely with the other CELTA students that new friendships are established and I'm quite certain they will last for some time. It's a 'complete' course where you learn how to teach, how people learn, how to plan your lessons, how to keep on developing professionally and you also practise techniques/activities to use the classroom and are given hints as to how to find a job post CELTA.

It was a very intensive course (as promoted) and I did enjoy the studying after such a long period since my uni days! Our class size was perfect and we formed a tight knit supportive group throughout the course. The 2 tutors had totally different teaching and tutoring styles which I appreciated. Working with the student classes in a real situation is very important and the students sourced were very keen and the classes challenging with the variety of learning styles and L1 influences. Thiene is a lovely little town, though with not much to distract from the task at hand. Fairly easy to get to without a car. The location of the school is handy to town - just a short walk, and with plenty of parking if you're driving. I'm so glad I came to do the curse in Italy with the London School instead of staying home in Australia. It was a truly rich and rewarding experience.

The course is very intensive and challenging but absolutely worth it because it gives you a solid preparation both theoretical and practical. The tutors and the school staff were supportive and present all the time if anything was needed. The experience was even more powerful thanks to the amazing friends I met during the course, always there helping and encouraging me at every step of the way.

The CELTA course at the London School in Thiene was a challenging, demanding yet rewarding experience. The tutors were highly professional, competent and supportive thanks to their consolidated know-how and expertise. The students were engaged and eager to learn. The entire staff welcomed us making us feel home ready to help us. The facility is very cosy and fully equipped with a wide range of methodology books and useful bibliography for the trainees.
