You will evaluate and create materials suitable for young learners ages 6 to 12. The practical nature of this course will rely heavily on designing communicative materials to teach language skills, developing effective classroom management skills, and exploring art, drama, music, children\u00b4s books and other authentic materials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You will also investigate some CLIL components suitable for the developmental stages of young learners, as well as digital resources that can be used in high-tech, low-tech and no-tech learning environments. Additionally, you will focus on ways to introduce critical thinking and creative activities to teach different language aspects such as vocabulary, structures and functions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This course will cover some or all of the following aspects:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Personal language development<\/li><li>Insights into cultural and intercultural issues<\/li><li>Classroom language<\/li><li>A range of approaches for teaching English to young learners and how such approaches may be realised in the classroom<\/li><li>Evaluation of materials for teaching English to young learners<\/li><li>Design and creation of teacher-made materials<\/li><li>Curricular subjects taught through the medium of English<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>This course will extend the participant\u2019s understanding and critical awareness of:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The principles and practice of teaching English to young learners<\/li><li>Developing critical thinking and cooperative skills<\/li><li>Digital resources for low-tech, no-tech and high-tech learning environments<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>To know more about the course watch this introductory video by Nile course designer <strong>Claudia Rey<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-youtube aligncenter wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"NILE ONLINE - Teaching Young Learners (TYL) Intro\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/N4jDbiZWa5w?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The course consists of <strong>8 online units<\/strong>, each lasting one week and requiring about 5 hours of individual study and work on Nile&#8217;s online platform. The online work is then explored more in detail during <strong>two face-to-face workshops <\/strong>in Thiene, as well as two online live sessions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the end of the course, participants have the opportunity to complete a <strong>final assignment<\/strong> that will be graded by the tutor. Those who complete the final assignment will receive a Certificate of Achievement. Should you chose not to complete the assignment, you will still receive a Certificate of Attendance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Dates and timetable<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>19th October-18th December 2020<\/strong>: online course (8 units, one per week with a one-week break half-way)<\/li><li><strong>Monday 19th October 2020<\/strong>: Zoom live session (about one hour) to get to know the tutor, course participants as well as the objectives and logistics of the course<\/li><li><strong>7th November 2020<\/strong>: 4-hour face-to-face workshop in Thiene, Italy<\/li><li><strong>5th December 2020<\/strong>: 4-hour face-to-face workshop in Thiene, Italy<\/li><li><strong>18th <strong>December<\/strong> 2020<\/strong>: Zoom live session (about one hour) to conlude the course and discuss the final assignment.<\/li><li><strong>Week of 14-18 December 2020<\/strong>: one.to-one tutorials with course participants who wish to complete the final assignment<\/li><li><strong>11th January 2021<\/strong>: deadline for submission of final assignment.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The quality of online teaching and learning is guaranteed
